New York, for many of us, has always had a magical quality. We think of it alongside the trumpets that blast at the beginning of a Frank Sinatra track that has grabbed centre stage on many a karaoke floor. Our television screens convey the busyness of the “City That Never Sleeps” through depictions of blaring, yellow taxi horns, cries of “Hotdog!” from a network of street vendors, and Sarah Jessica Parker. Photographs of New York likely hang on many of our household walls, presenting us with images of its skyline and the marvels of cityscape architecture.
Its vastness, history, and cultural relevance has made the Big Apple feel a lot like Middle Earth; a place that exists clearest in our imaginations. A place of pure fantasy.
Fortunately, for a wee performing arts school in North Lanarkshire, this mystical city will not be a fantasy for much longer because soon, the home of Broadway will meet the home of the Broadway Babies when ACTS journeys to New York City in 2025, where we will perform in the New York Tartan Parade!
We are ecstatic to be embarking on such a quest, hoping to conquer the rehearsal rooms during our performing arts workshops and take our rightful place in one of the many theatres and witness a live Broadway Show. The biggest adventure is of course to perform in New York City, an endeavor that even the most esteemed actors dream of doing.
This is of course quite the expedition, as daunting for us as it was the Hobbits leaving the Shire, which is why we are asking for a little hand – we are asking for sponsors!
We are currently in the process of reaching out to and identifying potential organisations or companies to sponsor, partially or fully, one of our students for this trip, contributing to the cost that would include flights, hotels, meals, excursions, shows, and branded merchandise. In return, ACTS would offer free advertising on all of our NYC branded merchandising (cases, t-shirts, bags, etc), free advertising on our social media from now until 2025, and free advertising in our printed show programmes to a yearly audience of around 3000 attendees from now to 2025.
This trip would be a life changing opportunity for any young person passionate about drama and performance. New York is widely considered to be the arts capital of the world and so a sponsor would quite literally make it a concrete jungle where dreams are made of.
If you know of any organisations or companies that you think would be able to sponsor one of our young people for this trip, please do get in touch with us and we will reach out immediately! And, if you have been sent this through by someone, and you represent a company or organisation that may be willing to help, we unironically say:
It’s up to you, New York, New York!
